Zinc silicate

The product is called zinc ethyl silicate and is used for cold galvanisation. The product is supplied by Hempel and is used to coat clean, rough metals so as to protect them against atmospheric corrosion.

Zinc ethyl silicate is a zinc-rich cement that resembles the coating achieved through hot galvanisation. In this case, however, it is not necessary to dip the items in a zinc bath, as the coating is applied with a spray as a wet coating that subsequently dries and hardens.

Zinc silicate coating consists of 85 per cent pure zinc. It is a very strong coating that can resist atmospheric corrosion for up to 50 years. A special feature of this coating is that it can repair itself if the surface is damaged.
